Our pastor is dedicated to the preaching and teaching the saving truth of the Bible.  Our pastor's job is to be our shepherd.  He strengthens and encourages us through the Word of God.  If you find that you would like to speak to our pastor about any trouble or problem, or would just like to know more about us or the Bible, please feel free to do so.

The pastors that our national church body trains are well equipped in the Word of God. They attend four years at our college in New Ulm, MN, learning the original languages of the Bible and receiving a bachelor's degree in liberal arts. After college they attend graduate school at our seminary in Mequon, WI.  There they receive training in the arts of being a parish pastor and theologian, finishing with master of divinity degree.

Pastor Dave Furno is our current pastor. He was installed on January 29, 2017.  Pastor Dave graduated from our Seminary in 1985 and served for four years at Faith Lutheran Church in Marquette, Michigan.  In 1989 he moved to Standish, Michigan to serve Holy Cross Lutheran. After three years he began serving St. John's in Sterling in addition to Holy Cross, less than 6 miles away. In 1994 Pastor Dave began serving St. John's Lutheran Church and School (grades Preschool--8). With the opportunity to leave the big city suburbs of Detroit and serve in a more relaxed rural setting, Pastor Dave accepted the call to serve St. John's in Lake Benton, together with Good Shepherd in Pipestone. Pastor Dave is married and has two adult children.
